Lindsay Datema

Lindsay M. Rogers Datema was born Jan. 5, 1979, in Baton Rouge, to Patrick W. and Glenda Tullier Rogers. She died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, in Houston at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in the Acute Palliative Care Unit. Lindsay graduated from Cypress Falls High School in Houston in 1997. In 2001, she graduated from the University of South Alabama USA in Mobile, Ala., with a degree in finance. In 2008, she was working on her degree in math from the University of Alabama Birmingham. In November 2008, she was diagnosed with a recurrence of melanoma cancer. Lindsay was a lifelong highly competitive athlete. She was a four-year letter winner in soccer at USA, one of six players at the time to have achieved this. She was co-captain of the team for two years. This competitiveness served her well in her battle with cancer. Her latest and greatest achievements however, had been as a great mom and wife. Lindsay resided in Pelham, Ala. She is survived by her husband, Jared P. Datema, whom she married on April 24, 2004, and their three children, Tyler Keith Datema, age 4, and her 2-year-old twins, Hayley Elayne Datema and Hayden Patrick Datema. Lindsay is also survived by her parents, Patrick and Glenda Rogers, of Houston; two siblings, Brad M. Rogers and wife Andrea, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Kelly Rogers Lanford and husband Shaun, of Houston; and her maternal grandmother, Mary Anita Tullier, of Brusly. She was predeceased by grandparents, J. Allen Tullier, who was of Brusly, and Tom M. and Bertha Bankston Rogers, who were of Baton Rouge. Church services will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on River Road in Brusly on Monday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m., with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. This church is where Lindsay and Jared were married in 2004. Burial will be in Resthaven Garden of Memories, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, immediately following the church service. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center please specify Melanoma.
