Linda Hebert Marocco was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 5, 1953, and passed peacefully, surrounded by family, in Baton Rouge on August 13, 2023. She was married to Fred Marocco for more than 47 years. Linda was a loving and selfless mother to her son, Justin Marocco, and daughter-in-law, Natalie Messina Marocco. She adored her four grandchildren: Noah, Josie, Peter, and Jude Marocco.
A New Orleans native, she graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1970 and the University of New Orleans in 1974. Linda began her career working for the United States Customs and Border Protection as an import-export specialist, eventually retiring from the Department of Homeland Security after 38 years. After retirement, she and Fred moved to Smithdale, Mississippi. Throughout her life, Linda enjoyed cooking, and she could always be found preparing a delicious meal for her family on each holiday. Linda’s vivacious and amiable personality endeared her to everyone she met. Lovingly known as “Grandme,” Linda enjoyed spending time and reading books with her four grandchildren. New pictures of each of her grandchildren could always be found on her fridge or framed in her house. Her love and pride for her grandchildren were readily apparent, and she cared deeply for each of them.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Art Hebert Sr. and Sibyl Hebert; her brother, Arthur A. Hebert Jr.; and her sister, Lynn Leaber. She is survived by and will be dearly missed by a host of family and friends, including her “sister” and lifelong friend Ann Cangelosi (Frank); cousins Debbie Roedel (Larry), Susan Gural (Ron), and Beth Henzler (Tom); sister-in-law, Sue Hebert; nieces Christine Cangelosi Redmond (Andy), Laura Bennett (Bruce), Anne Woods (Blake), and Ellen Martinez (Matt); and close friends Marilyn Parker and Suzanne Winters.
Fr. Tom Ranzino will officiate the funeral mass on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at St. George Catholic Church at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. The family sincerely thanks North Oaks Medical Center, The NeuroMedical Center, Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, and The Crossing at Clarity Hospice, whose staff provided such wonderful, loving care.
