Lillie Marie Messina Johnston passed away at her home on Monday September 23, 2024, at the age of 80. Lillie was born in Baton Rouge on September 23, 1944, and has lived in Louisiana, Jamaica and Saudi Arabia. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and married Peter Johnston at St. George Catholic Church on July 24, 1964. Lillie was passionate about her Catholic faith, traveling and celebrating holidays with family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Pete, and three sons, Aaron, Daron (Cheryl) and Craig (Shelby) along with daughters-in-law, Beverly Dashnaw and Becky Johnston Hoffpauir. She has nine grandchildren, Ashlyne Mullen, Adrienne Langlinais (Jeremy), Jacob Johnston (Sarah), Kelly George, Emily Johnston, Shjon Johnston, Josie Johnston, Matthew McGhee and Payton Tracy. She leaves behind her two sisters, Jackie Roberts (Mike) and Cynthia Rainwater (Danny), nieces and nephews, Kelli Ledet and family, Angel Lumpkin and family, Christy Rainwater and family, Shannon Hunt and family, Kaysie Truax and family along with countless other family members and friends that she loved dearly.
Lillie was preceded in death by her mother Josephine Carreca Messina, father Jack Nicolas Messina, sister Jovanna Ledet, brother-in-law Lanny Ledet, nephew Lanny David Ledet and daughters-in-law, Becky Bond and Ly-Thi Johnston.
The family would like to thank the Hospice of Baton Rouge for their care and compassion during the family’s time of need.
A mass will be held at St. Jean Vianney on Monday, September 30, 2024, beginning at 12:00 PM with visitation to start at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory located at 11817 Jefferson Hwy in Baton Rouge, LA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to an animal shelter of your choice.
