Lester O'Neal Jones, Sr., better known to his family and friends as "Spud," was a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He passed away on April 20, 2018 at the age of 44.
Lester was born on December 13, 1973 in Morgan City, LA. He was baptized at an early age at Mount Esther Baptist Church. In 1991, he relocated to Baton Rouge, LA. In 1992, he graduated from Lee High School and enlisted in the United
States Marine Corps. During his honorable service to our country, Lester successfully completed several mandatory
courses that assisted him to attain the rank of Corporal. These courses included Drills and Ceremonies, Battle Skills, Physical Training Management, Personal Finance, and Fundamentals of Marine Leadership. His accolades also included Rifle
Marksman Badge, National Defensive Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Upon honorable discharge from the military, Lester became a welder at Southern Valve where he worked for over 20 years. He loved God and frequently visited
Bethany Church and New St. John Baptist Church. He was a true outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. Known to many as a "jack of all trades", he could be your artist, carpenter, chef, electrician, mixologist or plumber. He was also well known for his barbering skills and eyebrow shaping, if necessary. Lester was a forgiving, peaceful, kindhearted and loving man. He was funny and knew how to make people smile and he will be greatly missed.
Lester is survived by his wife, Debbie Denise Knatt Jones; their beautiful children Destiny Olivia Jones and Lester O'Neal "Junie" Jones, Jr.; mother, Valarie Jones; father, Eddie Wilson, Jr. (Joan); brothers, Derrick Lynn Jones and Jerome Anthony Wilson (Tiffany); sisters, Aukeysia Renee Tate, and April Nicole "Pee Wee" Wilson; father-in-law, Paul Knatt Sr.; mother-in-law, Debra Willis Knatt; sisters-in-law, Dana Knatt Robertson (Reginel) and Jakayshea Knatt; brother-in law, Peyton Knatt (Ashley); aunts, Mary Ann Winters (Howard), Carol Jean Holmes (Kenneth), Denise Townsend (Fred), Ruth Jones Moore, Ingrid Jones, Barbara Chapman (Randolph), Brenda Wilson, and Sharon Oliver (John); uncles, Alvin Joseph Jones, Bemie Jones, III (Maria), Gary Jones (Debra), Eldrich Jones and Ronald Wilson (Evelyn); God-Children, Jamie Archelle, Jr., Haley Lorraine and Landon Lorraine, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Bemie Jones, Sr. and Irma Jean Jones; paternal grandparents, Eddie Wilson, Sr. and Bemice Woodard Wilson; one aunt, Lisa Jones; one uncle, Louis Wilson and one brother-in-law, Paul E. "Junie" Knatt, Jr.
Services will be held on April 27, 2018 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home at 6pm. The address is 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA, 70816. Visitation hours will be from 5pm-6pm and from 7pm-9pm.
