Leroy Johannessen

Leroy Arthur "Roy" Johannessen, a native of Columbia, SC, and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away peacefully on May, 13, 2015, at Carpenter House after a brief battle with cancer. He was 55 years old, born on March 11, 1960.

Roy was an avid reader, collector, and he also took great joy in fixing things, especially cars. More than anything, Roy was an amazing person and friend. He loved children, animals, and gardening in his free time. Roy will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Roy is survived by his parents, Gay Arthur Johannessen and Robert Lloyd Johannessen and wife, Betty; brothers, Bob Johannessen and wife, Kelly; William Johannessen and wife, Alison; sister, Betsy McMahan and husband, Scott.

He is survived by his nephews and nieces, Rob and Anna Johannessen, Catherine and Michael McMahan, and Will and Nicholas Johannessen.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Vaughn LeRoy and Adelaide Franklin Johannessen and Leroy Leland, for whom he was named, and Gay Neff Arthur.

The family requests that visitation hours be observed on Friday, May 15, 2015, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Funeral Home, 11817Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70816, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Visiting hours will resume on Saturday, May 16, 2015, from 9:00 AM until the time of services at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Carpenter House and Cancer Services of Baton Rouge.
