A resident of Lakeland and a native of Morganza, he died at 12:40 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2008, as the result of an automobile accident in Baton Rouge. He was 69 and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Friday, March 28, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home Saturday from 9 a.m. until service 1 p.m. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife, Dottie S. Purpera; three daughters, Tonya Miletello, Bridget Oubre and Patricia Gordon; six sons, Tracy, Tommy and Toby Thompson and Todd, Tony and Troy Purpera; brother, Joseph Pepper Purpera; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are Tracy Paul Thompson and Dillon Moore. Preceded in death by his son, Steve Purpera; and parents, Leonard Joseph Sr. and Noisey Comeaux Purpera. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family for funeral expenses.
