And the angel Gabriel took you by the hand and led you into Paradise. Lena Segesta passed away on September 1, 2016 at the age of 100. Born in Rockford, Illinois, she lived most of her life in New Orleans and her later years in Baton Rouge. She was the daughter of Nicolena D'Amico Cusimano and Louis Cusimano and wife of the late Vincent J. Segesta. She was sister of the late Anthony Cusimano, the late Vincent Cusimano, the late Lawrence Cusimano, the late Mary Cusimano, and the late Rosalie Piot. She is survived by daughter Rosalind Segesta Fronczek and her husband Frank of Baton Rouge, daughter Lucie Gannuch and her husband Mario of Baton Rouge, and sister Sedonia Cusimano of River Ridge. She is also survived by grandson Christopher Fronczek of Irvine, CA, as well as nieces and nephews. In her earlier years, Lena was very active in all phases of school functions, being very popular with teachers and students, always there to do what was asked of her. Lena's generosity was apparent to all, and she made many friends along the way who still have great stories to tell about her. She loved to cook and was known for her huge Sunday spreads, feeding her legendary meatballs to many hungry LSU students. Gardening, flowers, birds and squirrels were a joy to her. Lena loved spending time with her family, especially summer vacations at the beach. She delighted in being MeMe/Meems to her grandson, whom she was so proud of. She loved Mia her canine furbaby, who shared her feisty disposition. Lena's faith in God carried her through all of her life, and her wonderful smile remained with her to the very end. Heartfelt thanks to those who cared for her so well, especially Margaret, who for the last two years devoted herself to our mom. Memories of Mama Lena will last a lifetime, and she will always be the angel in our pockets. Visitation will be next month on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at St. George Catholic Church, Baton Rouge, at 9:30 AM until funeral mass at 11:00, conducted by Rev. Michael Schatzle. Burial to follow at St. George Cemetery.
