Lawrence Shepherd, Jr.

Lawrence H. Shepherd, Jr. died September 10, 2015 Baton Rouge. He was 80 and a resident of Baton Rouge.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Shepherd, Sr. and Lullean Gatlin Shepherd.

Lawrence is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Janky Shepherd, his daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn Shepherd Zinna and Randy P. Zinna, Laura Shepherd Menard and Gerry G. Menard, his grandchildren, John and Grace Menard, his brother and sister-in-law, Donald W. Shepherd (Bill) and Linda P. Shepherd, sister-in-law, Donna L. Janky, and nephews, Don, Mike and Russ Shepherd.

Lawrence was known both as Larry and Buddy to his many friends and family.

Lawrence was born in Jackson, Ms and his family moved to Columbia, Ms. As an undergraduate, he attended Pearl River Jr. College and Millsaps College. He received his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Illinois in 1962. Lawrence worked for 34 years in the Research and Development Division of the Ethyl and Albemarle Corporations in Baton Rouge.

Larry unconditionally loved his family and friends. He spent much of his time in retirement sending and receiving emails - keeping in touch with family and friends. He was interested in all news and supportive of everyone. He performed the service of sending emails of interest to the special groups of Fellow Retirees, Columbia High School Classmates, and Subdivision Members.

Larry also had an intense interest in the physical world around him. He spent much time continuing his study of new findings in Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy. He enjoyed rock formations, collecting samples and discussing them with his rock friends.

Larry especially enjoyed his family, the Monday Morning Coffee Call Group, his long term friends from high school, and the PRC Crew.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 18 at the Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, from 5 PM to 8 PM. Visitation will continue Saturday, September 19 at the St Andrews United Methodist Church, 17510 Monitor Ave. from 8:30 AM until the Memorial Service at 10 AM.
