Lawrence Arny "Larry" Durant, age 79, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017.
Larry was born August 8, 1937 in New Orleans, grew up in Baton Rouge, LA where he attended Baton Rouge High School. Larry graduated from both Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge and LSU Law School. Upon Graduation, Larry practiced law in the private sector until becoming General Counsel of the LA DOTD in 1993, employed there until retirement in 2009. Larry was a member of the Lamda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Louisiana Bar Association, Baton Rouge City Club among others.
Larry is survived by his three daughters, Daphne Durant of Baton Rouge, LA, Whitney Simmons and husband, Mike of Plano, TX and Courtney Blencke and husband, Charles of Houston, TX.; his sister, Holley Durant Pavy of New Orleans; seven grandchildren, Sloan, Sage, Spence, and Shea Simmons, Gunther, Ava, and Faye Blencke.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Mary Jet Roth Durant; his father, Leland Pride Durant and mother, Edwina Durant Ruth.
Visiting hours will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 12:00 pm until Funeral Service at 1:00 pm. Inurnment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the Family asks that memorial donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Texas Gulf Coast Chapter, texas-gulf@cff.org in the name of Ava Jet Blencke.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice.
