James Lavoy Tingle, Sr. passed away peacefully in the arms of family, at the age of 81, on May 29, 2022.
He was a retired building contractor who quietly and humbly spent his time meeting the needs of others. He devoted his life to three things: His God, his family, and anyone who needed help of any kind. He truly never met a stranger and enjoyed getting to know everyone that crossed his path, often surprising them with acts of kindness to brighten their day.
Lavoy leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Velma Higdon Tingle, children James L. “Jimmy” Tingle, Jr., Kevin and Crystal Tingle, Tammy and Leonard Frederick, Brian Guidry and Roger Jones, David and Carlyn Guidry, and Tiffany Guidry, brothers Joel Tingle and wife Katherine, Rufus Tingle and wife Kim, seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Florence Tingle, brothers Donald Tingle and Jerry Tingle, and sister Helen Lineice Tingle Wells.
Visitation will be Friday, June 3, 2022, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, from 10:00 am until religious services at 1:00 pm. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
To honor Lavoy’s love of children and his dedication to helping others, donations in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The family would like to extend its sincere appreciation to the staff at Baton Rouge Hospice for their compassion and care during Lavoy’s final days.
