Laura Stegen

April 7, 1934 — July 1, 2017

Laura Lee Whittington Stegen, 83, a native of Baton Rouge and longtime Metairie resident, entered heaven's gates on Saturday, July 1, 2017.

Laura devoted her life to serving God through family and friends. Her grandchildren were her greatest treasures. She was there for all of their big and little days- from talent shows and athletic events to birthdays and graduations. Laura was an amazing athlete and an avid tennis player. She had lifelong friends from her tennis days and treasured her bridge club. She enjoyed the beach and spending time with her family at the Perdido Key condo or in Destin with friends. In times of celebration or need, she appeared with her signature Company Shrimp casserole. Her home was the center of celebrations and gatherings. She loved flowers and raised beautiful Amaryllis.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Andrew Stegen; her daughter, Loretta Nesbitt and husband Greg of Dripping Springs, TX; her son Eric Stegen and wife Bonnie of Mandeville; grandchildren Lauren Nesbitt, Natalie Nesbitt, Drew Nesbitt, Matthew Stegen and Lillian Stegen; her siblings, Nena Richard and J.T. Whittington; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Laura is preceded in death by her parents, A.L. Whittington and Anetta Brown Whittington; and brother, Douglas Whittington.

Visitation will be held at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 19380 N 10th St, Covington, LA 70433 on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 9:30am until Celebration of Life service at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70816.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations to Trinity Church.

Her family and friends treasure her year and a half bonus round after going from hospice to remission. Every day with her was a blessing. Proverbs 31:25 is a verse that exemplifies her life-
"She is clothed with strength and dignity and laughs without fear of the future."

Family and friends may sign the online guestbook or leave a personal note to the family at www.resthavenbatonrouge.com.
