Larry Claiborne Walters, 71, of Baton Rouge passed away October 4, 2018 at the Butterfly Wing of Hospice of Baton Rouge. Larry was born February 1, 1947 in Laurel, Mississippi to Claiborne Walters Jr. and Dolly Kate Chancellor Walters.
Larry graduated from Myrick High School, attended Jones Junior College, and graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in chemical engineering. Most of his professional career was spent in environmental engineering. Larry was fair, honest, inclusive, a team player, and always for the underdog. He had a phenomenal memory for detail and loved to use his strong Southern accent to surprise people with his knowledge. He loved building and flying model airplanes, model trains, and fishing. He participated in Jubilee Pioneers.
Larry is survived by his wife, Harriet Tucker Walters; son, Jeremy Taylor Walters, and sister Nancy Kaye Long. He is preceded in death by his parents.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Our House for Respite for their loving and compassionate care over the last three years, as well as Hospice of Baton Rouge. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Baton Rouge.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 5, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 10:00 AM with visitation from 9:00-10:00 AM at Resthaven. Services will be officiated by Rev. Chris Andrews. Interment will follow services at Lake Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery in Laurel, Mississippi.
