Larry Wayne Johnson, 76, passed away on Saturday December 24, 2022 at Landmark South Nursing Center. He was a resident of Pride and Baton Rouge, LA where he was born on December 30, 1945. He retired as a District Chief from the Baton Rouge Fire Department after 30 years of service as a professional firefighter. He also served as the first Chief of the Pride Volunteer Fire Department. He served in this role for several years while helping to build the department from its beginnings in a hay barn to building the first fire station in Pride. He was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist church in Pride and served as a Boy Scout troop leader for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jo Ann Johnson, sons Michael Johnson; David Johnson and wife Becky; and grandchildren Owen, Arden and Gabby Johnson. He is also survived by five siblings and their spouses, children and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clevon Jewel and Eva Nell Johnson. He was a devoted father, grandfather, husband and friend to everyone he met. He loved meeting new people and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by so many who loved him.
A memorial service will be held on January 3rd, 2023 at Resthaven Funeral Home at 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA from 9 – 11 am.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Baton Rouge General Bluebonnet, Landmark South and Amedisys Hospice for their care, kindness, and compassion. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the Amedisys Foundation or charity of your choice.
