Landa Bernhard

June 15, 1955 — July 31, 2016

Landa Shyrl Hinson Bernhard, wife of William F. Bernhard, died peacefully, of natural causes, in her home on Sunday, July 31st. Lannie was the daughter of Al and Donna Hinson, who preceded her in death. She was the mother of Nicholas H. Bernhard, who is married to Catherine, and William C. (Caz) Bernhard. Nick has two children, Hayden Rae Bernhard and Ethan Bernhard.

Lannie graduated from Broadmoor High School and Northeast Louisiana University, with a B.S. in nursing. In her early career she was an emergency room nurse. She then was Dr. Martin Bell's surgical assistant for 10 years. She was the third employee of Analytical Nursing Corporation, eventually becoming CEO. She was instrumental in the negotiations to make Amedisys a publicly traded corporation. Lannie was also active in professional nursing organizations, including holding several offices. In 1994, she was named a Woman of Achievement by the BR Area YWCA.

After having Caz, Lannie decided to be a stay at home mom for her two sons. In addition, while Bill managed his business, Bernhard Brothers Mechanical Contracting, she managed their rental business, with the help of Carlos Gavalanos. She was also helped by her friend, Lisa Dodge.

Lannie loved cooking and entertaining guests in her home, reading and keeping up with the news. She loved mentoring and assisting young people who she felt had great potential. She always had projects going, and when she put her mind to something, she was a force to be reckoned with. In addition to her husband and sons, Lannie is survived by her sister, Novie Hinson and her brother, Albert F. "Bud" Hinson, his wife Amy, and their sons, Buddy and Braden. She is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends. She will be greatly missed.
