Lamon Barbie Thames, beloved Husband, Dad, and Pawpaw was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 15, 2021 at the age of 91. Born in Monticello, Mississippi on April 6, 1930 to the parents of Laney and Elberta Thames. He later went on to proudly serve his country as a Sargent 1st Class in the Army, receiving a Purple Heart during the Korean War. At the age of 27 years old, he became a faithful deacon at Grace Baptist Church for many years before becoming a member of Parkview Baptist Church.
He was employed at Bernard and Burk Engineering and later went on to work for Eye Care Surgery Center following retirement. Ole Miss, LSU, and his family were just a few of his passions and he always said, "God is so good to me, He blessed me with the greatest family."
Lamon is survived by his children Michael L. Thames (Ann), Donna F. Booth (Harrell), Jerry D. Thames (Jill), Dianne D. Huckeba (Gary); 9 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Margrette Rome; and nieces and nephews. Lamon, is preceded in death by his wife, Ida Fay (Russell) Thames, parents Laney and Elberta Thames, mother and father-in-law Howard and Grace Russell, sister Frances Pullen, brother-in-law Ted Pullen, sister Vela Thames, sister-in-law Helen Russell, and brother-in-law Roger Rome.
Friends and family are welcome to join us for a graveside service at Resthaven Gardens, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 11 am. A 'Celebration of Life' gathering will follow to have a time for food and fellowship at Parkview Baptist Church, 11795 Jefferson Hwy. A special thank you to our friends at Parkview Baptist and Jefferson Baptist Y@H for making Lamon's celebration of life special. As many of you know, he loved beautiful flowers, so flowers can be sent to Resthaven or donations in his honor can be made to Parkview Baptist or Jefferson Baptist Y@H
