Lamar Byrd

September 12, 1919 — March 26, 2010

90, a resident of Baton Rouge since 2005 and a former longtime resident of Bogalusa, passed away at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice on Friday, March 26, 2010, at 8:40 a.m. Born Sept. 12, 1919, Lamar is survived by the love of his life, his wife of almost 60 years, Goldie Parker a son, Barry L. Byrd and wife LuAnn, of Baton Rouge grandson, Brian and wife Emily Byrd, of Hattiesburg, Miss. grandson, Brad and wife Sara Byrd, of Baton Rouge and a precious greatgranddaughter, Leah Brooke Byrd, of Hattiesburg. He is also survived by a brother, Alton Byrd, of Bogalusa half brother, James Byrd, of McComb, Miss. and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. In 1953, when his widowed fatherinlaw died, Lamar also had the privilege of increasing his family from a wife and son by adding his 6yearold sisterinlaw, Linda Parker Scruggs and husband Mike of Hendersonville, N.C., and his 14yearold brotherinlaw, Lyman Parker and wife Joan of Denham Springs, whom he loved very much. He considered it a privilege to have had them live their remaining childhood years with his family. Lamar was employed by GaylordCrown Zellerbach Paper Mill in Bogalusa for more than 50 years until his retirement in 1996. A member of Istrouma Baptist Church since 2006, Lamar was previously a member of Calvary Baptist and Memorial Baptist Church of Bogalusa. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home on Saturday, March 27, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting at Istrouma Baptist Church on Sunday, March 28, from 1 p.m. until religious service at 2:30 p.m., conducted by a former pastor, the Rev. Ed Jenkins. Lamar was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and three brothers. Lamar truly loved God, his family and friends, and leaves a loving memory to those who knew him. A special thanks to The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice for their wonderful care.
