A loving husband, devoted father, a friend to all who knew him, and a retired employee with the Louisiana Department of Telecommunications, Kenneth Thomas Gendron Kenny died at 3:13 a.m. Sunday, July 12, 2009, at his home in Baton Rouge. He was 62, a native of Vacherie, lifetime resident of Baton Rouge, and a U.S. Army veteran. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Tuesday, July 14, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Visiting at St. George Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Michael Schatzle, celebrant. Survived by his wife, Janel Gremillion Gendron; mother, Lucille Simon Gendron, Baton Rouge; two daughters, Jennifer Ann Gendron, Baton Rouge, and Laurie Gendron Martin and husband Mickey, The Woodlands, Texas; son, Mark Thomas Gendron, Baton Rouge; two sisters, Karen Gendron Mayhall, Baton Rouge, and Libby Gendron Guidry, Slidell; four brothers, Leslie, Jimmy, Richard, and Dean Gendron; and two grandchildren, Alayna Katherine and Gabrielle Elizabeth Martin. Preceeded in death by his father, George Wilfred Gendron. Kenny was a graduate of Istrouma High School, where he was All-State first chair French horn. He was a graduate of LSU and a member of the Golden Band from Tigerland. After serving in the Vietnam War as a first lieutenant in a combat infantry unit, he was the recipient of the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star and the Bronze Star Medal with Valor for combat heroism. Kenny was past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 4030, past president of the St. George Men's Club, and member of the American Legion. All those who knew him were charmed by his stories, gentle nature, and wonderful sense of humor. Kenny will be remembered for his unwavering dedication in all aspects of his life. Many will sorely miss him at the St. George fish fries where he was a fixture for more than 20 years. He was grateful to the Gremillion and Coco families for the gift of his wife, Janel. He often said, She was the best thing that ever happened to me.
