A native of St. Amant and longtime resident of Central, he passed away Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at his home, surrounded by loving family and friends. Ken, a retired local business owner and devoted husband and father, is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joan Jackson Bourgeois son, Kenneth Maurice Bourgeois Jr. daughters and sonsinlaw, Tracie and Paul Greely, Suzanne Bourgeois, Markay and Jim Elgin, and Joanie and Mike Hawkins and close family friend, Janie Ryland. Ken was blessed with 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Brandon, Todd and Kristen Bourgeois, Jenni and Matt Falke, Michelle and John Cavalier, J.D. and Katalynn Badeaux, Logan Ballard, Ashton and Chris DeGruy, Emily Elgin, Christopher, Blane, and Kendall Hawkins and two greatgrandchildren, Haylee and Caden DeGruy. Kenneth is also survived by four brothers, Gabriel, Doyle, Ralph and Aelred Buzzy Bourgeois and two sisters, Barbara Shexnaydre and Bridget Sheets. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Elizabeth Bourgeois and several siblings. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Saturday, Aug. 14, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Michael Moroney, celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Baton Rouge Alzheimers Association or Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.
