Kay Fletcher

June 6, 1937 — July 22, 2021

On Thursday, July 22, 2021, Kay Larry Fletcher, loving husband, father of two sons, and grandfather of two grandchildren, passed away at the age of 84 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Kay was born on June 6, 1937, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Crawford and Rudith (Lovell) Fletcher. He received his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University in 1959 and Master of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1962, and he began his career as an engineer at Dow Chemical. He later started his own Amway business, where he became a well-recognized motivational speaker. He also established his own home building company where he became a prominent home builder in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On January 31, 1960, he married Carolyn Humble, his college sweetheart. They raised two sons, Larry and Lee.

Kay was known for his quick wit, infectious smile, and generous spirit. He attributed much of his character to his time as a boy spent at the Methodist Children’s Home in Ruston, Louisiana. Kay was a passionate reader and lifelong learner, always stating that, “if anybody else can do it, I can do it too; I’ll just work harder.” He lived his life grounded in his Christian faith and loved the Lord, his family, church, and community. His most treasured time was spent with his grandchildren, nicknaming them “BooBoo” and “Bull”. Kay constantly reminisced on how God had blessed his life, reminding his wife, Carolyn, that they had seemingly lived three lifetimes with all they had done.

Kay was preceded in death by his father, Crawford, his mother, Rudith, and his brother, Pete. He is survived by his beloved wife Carolyn, his two sons, Larry and wife Renea; Lee and wife Wendy, and his two grandchildren, Rachel and husband Trevor, and Matthew and fiancé Emily.
