The world lost one of its brightest, most vibrant lights when Katie Keogh, 20, passed away in an accident on January 9. Katie was unmatched in her ability to conjure up an unstoppable laugh. Her genuine love for life and people was contagious. To know Katie was to know both joy and compassion.
Katie was a graduate of Saint Aloysius School and Saint Joseph's Academy. She was studying Psychology at Louisiana State University with the intention of using her beautiful concern for others to help those in need. Katie was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority where her sisters remember her as a free spirit who was so easy to love. Katie shared her mother's love for music- especially the Beatles. It was one of their many shared interests that made Katie quick to call her mother, Patte Pinocci Keogh, her best friend. She fiercely treasured both her family and friends. She was her younger brother, Luke Keogh's, greatest protector. She was in awe of her father, Michael Keogh and his vast knowledge of just about everything. The admiration was mutual. When Katie visited home, it wasn't just to visit her family. It was to visit her special fur babies, Jackson and Buster. Katie was happiest when surrounded by friends, family, her dogs and listening to good music while making adventurous plans for the future.
In addition to her immediate family, Patte, Mike and Luke, Katie is survived by her aunts and uncles Sheryl Thomas, Julie Abshire, George Keogh Sr., and John Keogh. She is survived by her aunt and godmother, Mary Keogh-Schmaling, and godfather, Peter Squires. She is also survived by many cousins and very dear friends, too many mention.
Katie's family will receive visitors Friday, January 13, from 10 am until 12 pm with a Mass celebrating Katie's life to follow at Saint Aloysius Catholic Church located at 2025 Stuart Avenue, Baton Rouge LA 70808. By Katie's own standards she lived a wonderful life. As Katie once said, "So bottom line, enjoy every moment you have, and in the end all that matters in life is that you were happy and safe."
