Katherine Riley

Mrs. Katherine W. Riley, 93, died late Wednesday night, January 15, 2014 in St. Josephs Hospice. She was born September 12, 1920, to Minnie Rivers Woodward and Frank Ira Williams in Lake Charles, LA. In December 1938, Katherine met Keith Riley after he had seen her in the Baptist church choir. He said he saw her feet under the curtain and told the wife of a friend he worked with that he was interested in her. In January 1939, Katherine and Keith began dating, and they married in her mothers living room June 12, 1942. Katherine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who took great pride in her family. Katherine attended McNeese Junior College and John Sealy Nursing College in Galveston. She was a registered nurse until she retired in 1985. The operating room was her favorite assignment. Katherine was active in the Eastern Star serving as the Worthy Grand Matron of the chapter in Camden, AR. She was an active member of St. Johns United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, along with local churches in communities where she previously resided in Arkansas, Florida, Missouri, Texas, and Louisiana. She earned the nickname Sarge for her take charge nature. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Williams Jim Pasadena, TX daughter, Sharon Miller Donn Harris Waterloo, IA son, Rob Riley Lois Saint Gabriel, LA grandchildren, Howard Eileen, Andy Jacquie, and Phillip Robin Williams Carrie Denton Jeremy and Lindsey Alexander Mark Katy Riley Debbie Hawkins and great grandchildren, Adam, John, and Carly Williams Brad and Brandon Murray Matt, Mason, and Max Williams Riley, Mason, and Ashlyn Denton and Eleanor, Charles, and Will Alexander. She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith her parents and her granddaughter Lisa Williams. Visitation will be held at St. Johns United Methodist Church, 9375 Highland Rd., on Monday, January 20, 2014 from 10 am, with a luncheon at 12 noon.
