Karen Graves Masoner, 64, of Prairieville, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, in Baton Rouge following a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. Karen was born May 9, 1949, in Eldorado, Arkansas to Paula Henley Battles currently of Baton Rouge and Norman Graves. Karen grew up primarily in Pineville, Louisiana, later moving to the Baton Rouge area, where she graduated from East Ascension High School in Gonzales in 1967. She later attended Southeastern Louisiana College in Hammond. Karen lived mostly in the Baton Rouge area Denham Springs, Gonzales, Prairieville for the last 45 years, and lived for a short time in Fort Worth, Texas, and was a member of the Broadmoor United Methodist Church. Her professional life was in the insurance business, both in Louisiana and Texas. Although facing many obstacles, Karen gave herself to caring for her grandchildren. Karen is survived by her husband, Jesse Masoner, of Prairieville one daughter, Kimberly Dencausse of Gonzales her mother, Paula Battles and stepfather, Don Battles of Central stepchildren, Clara Elmore and husband Charles of Arizona, Jay Dee Masoner and wife Oliana of Rayton, Missouri brothers, Michael Graves of Central, and David Graves of Vienna, Austria stepsisters, Donna Williams of Plano, Texas, Stephanie Keibel of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Holly Deckard of Willard, Missouri and two grandchildren, Casey Schexnayder of Denham Springs, and Kenneth Reine of McComb, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her father, Norman Graves of Eldorado, Arkansas, and a brother, Steve Graves, of Baton Rouge. Her family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers Tara Stewart, Myra Ford and Angela Brandstetter, as well as the staff at Hospice of Baton Rouge. A visitation will be held Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., from 12 noon until the memorial service at 1 pm.
