Karen Rink Brown, age 78, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 6, 2015.
Karen was born in Odon, Indiana in 1936. Her family moved to Indianapolis, Chicago, Wisconsin, and New Orleans before permanently residing in Baton Rouge in 1952. She graduated from Baton Rouge High School and attended LSU before marrying Virgil Brown in 1956. Karen was a member of the First Christian Church and attended the Radio Bible Course for many years. Karen was a very creative person, always involved with projects at school with the children, making costumes at Halloween, and decorating. She won several Kenilworth Christmas Decorations awards. Karen enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, and was an avid reader. Her greatest loves were her children, grandchildren, and their numerous pets.
Karen is survived by her husband of 59 years, Virgil Brown; son, Daniel Brown (wife Tina), [[]Lumberton, TX]; and daughter, Donna Hammonds (husband Dan) [[]Evans, GA]. Her grandchildren are Allen Lacy [[]Beaumont, TX], Amanda Lacy [[]Austin, TX], Jason Lacy (wife Megan) [[]Fort Rucker, AL], Jamie Lee [[]Houston, TX], Whitney Hamm [[]Houston, TX], Heather Lundy (husband Brett) [[]Savannah, GA], Jessica Olliff (husband Wesley) [[]Savannah, GA], and Holly Hammonds [[]Franklin, TN]. She has two great-grandchildren; Henry Owen Lacy and Archer Cain Olliff. Other relatives include her brother, James Rink (wife Carolyn), sisters-in-law, Flo Rink, Ann Thompson (husband Stephen); brothers-in-law, Ronald Brown (wife Patricia), Richard Brown (wife Yvonne), and many nieces and nephews.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents, James C. Rink and June Webster Rink, and her brother, Charles Rink.
The family requests that visitation hours be observed on Monday, May, 11, 2015, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70816.
A second visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at 12:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Interment will take place at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
