Julie Holmes Landry

Julie (“Dudu/Duie/Du”) Holmes Landry peacefully surrendered to her heroic battle surrounded by her family on October 2, 2023.  She was born on February 16, 1939, in LaPlace, Louisiana to Leslie Joseph Holmes, Sr. and Roline Marie Madere Holmes.  After moving to Baton Rouge, Julie graduated from Istrouma High School in 1957.  She retired as a buying agent from DSM Copolymer after years of dedicated employment. 

Julie was a lover of spearmint snowballs and slot machines; two-stepping and Toby; and cardinals and jitterbugs.  Julie dedicated her life to spoiling her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren with the best Cajun cooking around.  She loved spending time in her flowerbeds and watching the cardinals at her birdfeeders.

Julie has numerous loved ones receiving her in Heaven, including her parents; her beloved husband, John Landry; her children Sherri LeBlanc and Kenneth Smiley; her siblings Elaine Kirk, Leslie Holmes Jr., and Patricia Matthews; and her nephew Clint Holmes.

She is lovingly survived by her grandchildren Lindsey and Lacey LeBlanc and Elizabeth and Ronald Smiley; nieces and nephews Leslie Ann Rusche, Lulu Holmes, Ricky Holmes, Linda Jeansonne, Kevin Matthews, and Korey Matthews; along with numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. 

Julie’s family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at The Hospice of Baton Rouge for taking special care of her during these last few months of her life.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with the service and interment to follow.
