Juanita Catha

A Christian, devoted wife, and a loving mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother, she passed away at age 83 on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at her home at Oakwood Assisted Living in Zachary. Juanita, Neta, was born on Sept. 22, 1929, in Denham Springs, the second of four children. She graduated from Istrouma High School in 1946 and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southwestern Louisiana University in 1950. She went on to obtain two masters and a specialist degree from LSU. During her 28 years working for the East Baton Rouge Parish school system, she served as a teacher at Istrouma, Prescott and Park Forest Junior High schools. She then became an assistant principal at Sherwood Junior High School before moving to the Special Education department where she served as supervisor, assistant director and acting director. While serving as assistant director of Special Education, she was also the principal of Southdowns Elementary School. She is survived by sons, Keith Catha and wife Brenda, and David Catha and wife Maria daughters, Marla Catha Bethea and husband Jim, and Sherry Catha Cavin and husband Al grandchildren, Jonathan Cavin and wife Nichole, Benjamin Cavin, Kristen Catha and fiance Danny Pursiful, Matthew Catha and wife Jennifer, Cindy Cavin Kirby and husband Brett greatgrandchildren, Coy Daigle III, Crista Daigle, Blaire Cavin and Mason Cavin. Preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Clyde S. Catha her parents, Edmon and Betty Reynolds and sisters, Julia Belle Reynolds and Marjorie Boyette. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 30, from 1 p.m. until service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Jim Nichols. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be Keith, David and Matthew Catha, Al and Ben Cavin, and Jim Bethea. Honorary pallbearers are Jon Cavin, Brett Kirby, Danny Pursiful and Gary Lipham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church, 4200 Main St., Zachary, LA 70791.
