Joyce DeArmond McIntire

August 6, 1941 — April 16, 2025

Joyce DeArmond McIntire, age 83, a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully at her home on April 16, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Joyce was a proud alum of St. Joseph’s Academy and Louisiana State University, where she earned her degree in Home Economics, at a time when that was incredibly unusual for a woman to do so. She worked at the Louisiana Department of Education until the birth of her first grandchild, when she joyfully took early retirement and stepped into her most treasured role—being a grandmother, better now known as “Nana.”

She was an integral part of the family business, Overpass Cleaners, where no customer left without seeing photos of her grandchildren. A true social butterfly and the quintessential Southern lady, Joyce adored her hometown of Baton Rouge, cherished visits to New Orleans, celebrated Mardi Gras with gusto, and never passed up a glass of champagne or a Pimm’s Cup with family and friends. She lived life with joy, warmth, and a deep love for others.

Joyce is survived by her beloved son, Ronald “Trey” Klein McIntire III; her treasured grandchildren; Allison Nevon McIntire, Carter Hamilton McIntire, and Hunter Klein McIntire, along with their mother, Brandy Heard McIntire; her sister, Jonnie Lu Kleinpeter; her sister-in-law, Catherine “Sis” Pegues; and her nieces and nephew. She is also survived by her devoted caregiver, Fanny McClain, who became family and was lovingly known as “her person” over the last four years.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 50 years, Ronald Klein McIntire Jr.; her parents, Johnny and Lucille DeArmond; and her aunt and uncle, Bessie and Harry Stabiler.

Visitation will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be Carter McIntire, Hunter McIntire, Nolan Hutchinson, Trey Esnard, Beau Blackmon, and Jordan LeJeune.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Trey Esnard, Fanny McClain, Barbara Chase, Betty Roberts, Dr. Adrian Landry, and Audubon Hospice for the excellent care Joyce received until her final breath. Your compassion will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Family and friends are invited to sign the online guestbook or share personal condolences at www.resthavenbatonrouge.com.
