Joy Michelle “Schelle” Cook Maclean, our wonderful daughter, sister, mother and friend, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the age of 63. She was born August 11, 1961, in Memphis, Tennessee to James Mitchell “Mickey” Cook and Billie “Joy” White Cook. A graduate of Craigmont High School in Memphis, Schelle furthered her education at Louisiana State University receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. Soon after, Schelle began her dedicated career with Federal Express, retiring with 34 tenured successful years.
Schelle is survived by her loving parents, Mickey and Joy Cook; her beloved sons, Brian and Mitch Maclean; and her devoted sister, Valerie Toney and husband, Mike. She is also survived by her sons’ father, Robert B. Maclean, as well as countless cousins, family and friends.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. William Varnado and the infusion team who took such compassionate care of Schelle, especially Brooklyn Taylor, RN and Anna Pitre, RN.
Her passion for LSU sports was evident to all, especially during football and baseball seasons, as tailgating was one of her all-time favorite things to do! Schelle also dabbled with cooking and loved the tradition that she and her Alpha Xi Delta sorority sisters had with girls’ weekends, but all of these paled in comparison to her true joy in life, being a mother to Brian and Mitch, with them she was truly at her happiest. Her love was immeasurable.
Schelle left an indelible mark on this world and all the lives that she touched. Headstrong yet kind, she had an amazing wit with her quick comebacks. We will forever cherish the memories made. Although her time on Earth was much too brief, she made the most of every moment – teaching all of us that life is truly a gift.
