Joy Schmidt Forbes

Joy Schmidt Forbes, a long-time resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at the age of 91. She was born on June 24, 1933, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and resided there until moving to Baton Rouge with her husband, Max in 1956. Joy truly lived up to her name, bringing laughter, quick wit, and a touch of mischief to everyone around her. Throughout her life Joy enjoyed traveling, reading, dining, and serving in her church. But what she loved most was spending time with her beloved family - her husband, children, grandchildren, and her extended family. She was particularly outspoken in her pride of her Schmidt family heritage! Whether she was addressed as Joy, Joysie, Mom, Mawmaw, Grandma, Mama, Aunt Joy, or Hun, Joy was loved by many.

Joy is preceded in death by her parents Luella and Fred Schmidt, brothers Fred (F.D.) Schmidt Jr., Roy Schmidt, and John Schmidt, and granddaughter Lauren Williford. She is survived by her beloved husband Max Forbes, her children Sharon Graves (Tommy) and Jimmy Forbes (Chris), her grandchildren Ashley Graves, Katelyn Graves, Barrett Beam, and Jamie Forbes, and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

The family would like to invite all who knew and loved Joy to join us as we commemorate her life. A visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home on August 6, 2024 from 9:00am until funeral services at 11:00am. A graveside service will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
