A longtime resident of Baton Rouge, he died Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, following a courageous struggle with lung cancer. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Sunday, Sept. 18, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Celebration of Life Mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 12424 Brogdon Lane, on Monday, Sept. 19, at 10 a.m. celebrated by the Rev. Gerard R. Martin, followed immediately by Christian Burial at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 53 years, Tippy Daigle Blanchard son, J. Charles Blanchard Jr., wife, Marcia Daughtry Blanchard, and their children, Madeline and J. Charles Blanchard III, and son, James Jim and daughters, Angelle and Alyssa Blanchard, all of Baton Rouge a brother, Hubert M. Blanchard Jr. and wife Selma Faulk Blanchard, of Tucker, Ga. and two sisters, Virges Blanchard LeBlanc and husband Louis Boo LeBlanc, and Cathy Blanchard Landry and husband David Landry, of Donaldsonville and brotherinlaw, Louis Papet of Virginia Beach, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Sr. and Eloyt Berthelot Blanchard two brothers, O.J. and Larry, who were of Donaldsonville and a sister, LeAnna Papet, who was of Virginia Beach, VA. He was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic minister and reader before his illness. He was a charter member of Shenandoah Country Club which he always considered a cherished gift to his family. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the following: Hospices of Baton Rouge, Cancer Services of Baton Rouge, Dr. Gahan, Dr. Russell and Dr. Miletello along with their staffs for their excellent care. A special thanks to Pauline Engolio, his Hospice nurse, and Jeanette Gatzman, for her special attention to his spiritual needs. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may by made in his name to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital , Hospice of Baton Rouge and Cancer Services of Baton Rouge. The family will be receiving guests following the burial at the Activity Center located at St. Patrick Catholic Church.
