Jonnie Sue Liles passed away on Monday, September 9. 2024, at the age of 77. She was born October 9, 1946, in Dalton, Georgia to J.C. Dyer and Mable Davis Dyer. She had the amazing opportunity to spend most of her childhood in the Panama Canal Zone. After graduating from Balboa High School, she moved to the United States and attended college at the University of Georgia. She retired after 15 years with the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office as their travel coordinator.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husbands, William Beard Durkin and Gregory Alan Liles. Jonnie is survived by her daughters Cheryl Ann Rodriguez and husband Kiki, and Courtney Olivia and husband Kris; her sons William Brian Durkin and wife Shay, Mike Clinton Durkin and wife D’anna, and John Byron Durkin; and her beloved grandchildren Javier Rodriguez, Tyler Rodriguez, Carlie Durkin, Breanna Durkin, Hunter Durkin and Kaitlyn Olivia. She is also survived by her brother, Gary Clinton Dyer as well as numerous other loving family and friends.
Her time abroad provided countless stories of howler monkeys in the jungle and cruises to and from Panama, both of which inevitably attributed to her love of the outdoors, especially the ocean. Jonnie enjoyed crocheting, gardening and baking, but none of these made her as happy as spending time with her family! She was kind, funny, found joy in making her home inviting to all and was above and beyond all the most dedicated and loving mother.
Friends and family are invited to attend the memorial service to be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 15615 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge. A memorial visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary, where she will be laid to rest next to her loving husband, Greg.
