Johnston Scott Johnny Delaune Jr.
He was born Jan. 21, 1926, in Hope Villa and died peacefully at his home in Denham Springs, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at 4:30 p.m. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Wednesday, Oct. 24, was from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Thursday from 9 a.m. until service at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Ken Spivey, pastor, and Deacon Lonny Broussard. Military graveside service at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. He unselfishly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II from 1943-45. He was a gunny sergeant on
e bombers, having received the Air Medal for 86 combat missions flown. He re-enlisted during the Korean War, serving from 1950-51. Johnny specialized in communications, which led to his career with BellSouth, retiring in 1984 with 39 years of service. Survived by the love of his life, his wife of 58 years, Jeanelle Gautreaux DeLaune; and three daughters, Deborah DeLaune and companion Jimmy Tranchina, Rene Bachaleda and husband Dennis, and Lisa DeLaune. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Jason Ory and fiance Lori Lloyd, Dr. Jon M. Rich and wife Francesca, Jill Chaney and husband Dwain, Lance Cpl. Klayton J. Rich, U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Iraq, and Kelli Lee and husband Koby; and great-grandchildren Tyler, Dillon, Zackary, Karley and Cooper. His brothers and sisters left to cherish his memory, Harvey P. DeLaune and wife Kathleen, Joyce Harris and husband Floyd, James E. DeLaune and wife Jimmie Lee, B. Howard DeLaune and wife Ginger, and Inez Markwick. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Gloria DeLaune, Bonita Gautreaux, Delaine Gautreaux, Peachie Ragusa and husband Phil; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a multitude of friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Johnston Scott and Nettie Yarborough DeLaune; sister, Cannie Strickland and husband Shelton; brother, Herbert Doodle DeLaune; in-laws, Sidney and Amy Gautreaux; brothers-in-law, Sidney and Russell Gautreaux; sister-in-law, Jeanette D'Arensbourg and husband Gerald; and a very special pal, his granddog, Remus.
