Johnny William Layfield - a resident of Denham Springs, Louisiana passed away Tuesday February 14, 2017 at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph's Hospice in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Born September 13, 1943, Johnny was 73 years of age at his passing.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday February 18, 2017 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home. Visitation and a recital of the Rosary will take place from 11:00 am to 12:45. Johnny is preceded in death by his mother - Nellie Rose Goudeau Layfield of Marksville, Louisiana and Father - Grady William Layfield of Millidgeville, Georgia.
Johnny is survived by his children: daughter -Monica Lynn Layfield McCloud and her spouse Brett McCloud, Son - Grady John Layfield and his spouse Brandie T. Layfield and Son - James Richard Layfield and his spouse Lisa Layfield; Brothers - Richard Grady Layfield and his spouse Kathleen Layfield and brother Michael Layfield and his spouse Donna Layfield; Grandchildren - Jessica Marie Cooper and her spouse Jackson Cooper, Andrew Rikard Layfield and Alexandra Grace Layfield and Great Grandchild - Jordan LaRue Cooper.
Johnny was born in Marksville, Louisiana where he grew up and attended Marksville High School. He later moved to Alexandria, Louisiana where he spent most of his adult life. Johnny's career was in automotive sales and he loved being a part of that business. Johnny had many hobbies but he enjoyed playing golf and loved watching LSU sports more than anything. He coached his children's baseball and t-ball teams and was very successful as a high school basketball referee.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made in Johnny's name to The Carpenter House of St. Joseph's Hospice and Palliative Care.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Brady Guillory and Dr. Steven Spedale for their kindness and knowledge of dying with dignity. The nurses of the staff of The Carpenter House including nurses: Carolyn, Terry, Beatrice, Amy, Meagan, Terrance as well as aides Crystal, Nakia and Devin and Director of the unit Treevu, for the most loving individualized care of our father and our family in this tough time. Not enough words can be said about the wonderful place our father was able to spend in last days. We know we missed a few names but all of you helped to start our healing process.
