The Lord blessed us with Johnny Lee Ralph Hodges on October 31, 1922 in Hammond, LA. On September 1, 2015 at 92 years old, he passed away at his home surrounded by his family that so adored him.
To know him was to love him and his love for his family was unmeasurable. He lived a beautiful example of a selfless life weaved with an enormous personality full of love and laughter. He was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. He was a WWII veteran who served in the Army Air Corp as a top turret gunner flying B24's in the China Burma India Theater. He was a carpenter by trade and was then Business Agent for the Carpenters Local #1098 and was later inducted into the AFL-CIO Hall of Fame. Later he was appointed by Gov. Edwin Edwards to serve as Assistant Secretary of Labor.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Vera Mae Allen Hodges; his children, Dennis and wife Yon Hodges, Janet Hodges Pruitt and husband Bill Pruitt, Suzanne Hodges Leon and husband Patrick Leon and Johnny and wife Terri Hodges; his grandchildren, are April and husband Ronny Blanchard, Byron FaKouri, Rhett Hodges, Jessica Pruitt Ata, Jonathan Pruitt, Mary Catherine Hodges and John Mark Hodges; and his two great grandchildren, Cole FaKouri and Caleb Blanchard.
He is preceded in death by an infant son, Darryl Allen Hodges; his parents, John Robert Hodges and Birdie Martin Hodges; and 6 brothers and 5 sisters.
Visitation will held Saturday, September 5, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Broadmoor United Methodist Church followed by the funeral service at 12:00 PM. Burial will be at Resthaven Gardens of Memory followed by a reception at Broadmoor Methodist.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Broadmoor United Methodist Church or Hospice of Baton Rouge.
