1SG retired, Johnny Robert Graves aged 62, a resident of Pride, LA, passed away on April 30th, 2024.
Johnny was a career soldier, proudly serving in the US Army for over 24 years, including deployment to
Baghdad during the Iraqi War. He retired as a Drainage Maintenance Supervisor from the Baton Rouge
Department of Public Works after 20 years. He had a deep love for the outdoors, enjoyed spending his
free time in the woods for hunting seasons, and on the water in pursuit of fish whenever he could. He
was a loyal family man and friend. He enjoyed mentoring younger servicemen as well as his time working
for The state run Youth Challenge Program. After retiring from the Army, Johnny found kindred spirits
within The Wounded War Heroes organization, and spent a lot of time connecting with other Vets out in
his happiest places, doing what he loved most.
Johnny is survived by Karen Graves, his devoted wife of 42 years, as well as his loving daughter, Monica
Graves Snoddy, son in law Brent Snoddy, brother Ronnie Smith, and a sister. He was preceded in death
by his beloved parents, Faye Doris and Robert Lee Graves.
Visitation will take place at St Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church in Greenwell Springs on Tuesday, May 7,
from 9:30am until services at 11am. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Baton Rouge with full Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Wounded War Heroes | Putting Heroes Back in the
Outdoors OR the St Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at St Alphonsus Give (parishsoft.com) (please make
note “for St Vincent de Paul” on your donation through the church website) in Johnny Graves’ name.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all those who have reached out with loving wishes for
