As the apostle Paul wrote, To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, as he is today. He was 97. He passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Flannery Oaks Nursing Home. He was born in Kentwood to Lemuel and Mattie Yarbrough. Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Friday, Dec. 9, from noon until service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Milford Walters. Interment at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. John Owen is survived by two sons, John O. Johnny Yarbrough Jr. and Ronald D. Ron Yarbrough and his wife, Bonnie daughterinlaw, Jan Summers and her husband, Kirk four granddaughters, Janell Pellichino and her husband, Rex, Traci Yarbrough, Laurie Malone and her husband, Pat, and Rhonda Benoit and her husband, Daniel. He has 10 greatgrandchildren, Justin, Brandon and Megan Pellichino, Caitlin and Ryan Malone, Brock, Blake, Desiree, Braden and Madeline Benoit and two sisters, Maunita Wilkinson, of Baton Rouge and Zelda Hoelz, of Zachary. He was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Walker Yarbrough parents, Lemuel and Mattie Yarbrough three brothers, C.J. Yarbrough, James Yarbrough and Hollis Yarbrough and three sisters, Neva Carney, Susie Bailey and Fannie Temple. He was retired from Ethyl Corp. after 39 years of service and was a founding member and deacon of Victoria Baptist Church.
