A retired riverboat captain and a resident and native of Baton Rouge, he died on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Friday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. until cryptside service at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Mausoleum at 1 p.m. He is survived by three daughters, Samera Darling and Annie Brinkman, both of Indianapolis, and Leslie Mercer, Plaquemine; a son, John Watson, Plaquemine; three sisters, Patsy Lucille Watson, Judi Jarreau and Susie Dendy, all of Baton Rouge; two brothers, Capt. William O. Watson Jr., Gonzales, and Capt. Meyer Watson, Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Erica, Ryan, Michael, Travis, Trey Samuel, Payton Alexander and Noah Riely; and former wife, Faith Williams and husband Rick. Preceded in death by his parents, Capt. William O. and Lucille Watson; sister, Betty Henderson; and two brothers, James Watson and Capt. Robert Watson. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Plaquemine. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
