John Walter Dupaquier, Jr., aged 95, passed away on November 6, 2024, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Born in New Orleans on January 15, 1929, he lived a vibrant life marked by his dedication to his family, friends, and music.
John was a lifelong musician, having earned a Master's degree in Music from LSU, which laid the foundation for his long career as a piano teacher and a musician spanning nine decades. His love for music extended into his personal life, where he enjoyed playing the piano, banjo, and indulging in genres like Dixieland, jazz, and classical.
In addition to his musical pursuits, John was a dedicated member of the Naval Reserve, showing his patriotism and commitment to service. He was also an active member and supporter of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge, where he contributed to the community's spirit and faith.
His hobbies weren't confined to music; John was an avid fisherman and sailor, often found sailing or fishing, embracing the serenity of nature. He was a member of the Bay Waveland Yacht Club in Bay Saint Louis.
John was a beloved figure, known for his positive outlook and being a captivating storyteller, traits that endeared him to many.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Dupaquier Wilson; son, Rene Eugene (Holly) Dupaquier; grandchildren, Alan (Allison), Meghan (Bill), Blane (Catherine) Wilson, and Rene "Beau" Dupaquier, Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Becket, Hansford, Garner, James, Elizabeth, Annie, and Ryan.
His life was previously enriched by his wife of 63 years, Beth Prater Dupaquier, his late son Jack Dupaquier, son-in-law Jim Wilson, his parents John “Walter” Sr. and Alice Chapman Dupaquier, sister Alice Dupaquier Hicks, and brothers Pierre and Edouard Dupaquier.
To honor his life, a visitation will be on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3552 Morning Glory Avenue in Baton Rouge. A funeral service will start at 2:00 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
Following the interment the family invites you to stay for a reception at Resthaven Funeral Home.
The family has entrusted his final arrangements to Resthaven Gardens of Memories and Funeral Home in Baton Rouge.
