John M. Talley, Jr., passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the age of 60. He was born on December 5, 1963, in Montgomery, Alabama to John Michael Talley, Sr., and Dorothy Hobbs Talley.
John attended Woodlawn High School before furthering his education at Louisiana State University. He touched untold lives as a Teacher and Athletic Coach; a man of strong faith, he was a member of Household of Faith Church.
His coaching career began at Lee High School where he met the love of his life Lydia, and then on to St. Amant High, Dutchtown High attaining the 2012 Boys State Track and Field title, then to Parkview High under friend and high school Coach Kenny Guillot. His final coaching season was with the St. Charles Catholic High School Comets where he earned 2 State Championships in football. John was a 2022 Boys Assistant Coach Finalist for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association. These and numerous awards highlighted his career in high school athletics.
His love for shaping young athletes to succeed in their chosen sport and then in life was unmatched. John had a gifted intellect which he shared unselfishly with his students and friends. He was well read and a lifelong student of history. John worked hard but kept his family as a priority. Many delicious meals were shared around his table by family and friends.
John was a leader, influencer, and he invested himself unselfishly. He loved God, his family and friends without measure. He will be sorely missed.
He is preceded in death by his father.
John is survived by his loving wife, Lydia Breaux Talley; his mother, Dorothy Hobbs Talley; his daughters, Laurie Gant (Shawn) and Julie Macaluso (Paul), his sons, John Michael Talley III “Trey”, and Michael Domino, Jr. (Teri); his sisters Theresa Strickland (Daniel), Leslie Talley, Kathleen Talley, and Lindsay Talley; 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Household of Faith Church, 10469 Airline Highway in Gonzales, Louisiana beginning at 10am. Funeral services will follow at 12pm. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
