John Alfred Smith Al native of St. Tammany La, and resident of Central La passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the age of 92. He went to high school in Slidell, La and business school in New Orleans, La. Al served in WWII with the Army Air Corp in the Pacific Theater as a crew chief working on heavy bombers, and was a former local commander of the VFW. He retired after 44 years of employment with Farris and LCR Plumbing Supply Companies as Manager.
He is survived by his son and daughterinlaw, Stephen and Patricia Smith daughter and soninlaw, Kathleen and Roy Ortego two grandsons, Brad Smith, and Collin Smith and wife Blair great grandchildren, Hunter Hebert, Brady Smith, and Berkley Smith stepgrandchildren, Lee Ortego and wife Sunny, Tammy Guilbeau and husband Bronson stepgreatgrandchildren, Kennedy and Rylan Guilbeau, and Michael, Kaylyn and Julie Landry.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Deda Stimpson Smith the love of his life of 63 years, Mildred Smith and his brother, Vincent Smith, who was killed during WWII.
Visiting hours will be observed at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 11:00 am until service time. Funeral Services will held at 1:00 pm, conducted by Deacon Brent Duplessis. Interment will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
Pallbearers will be Collin Smith, Brad Smith, Tim Craig, Amon Craig, John Crawford, and Kevin Dyer.
