John Purpera, Sr. passed away surrounded by family on December 17, 2015 at the age of 103.
John was born on August 22, 1912 in Batchelor, LA to Sarah and Frank Purpera of Tusa, Sicily. He worked as a heavy machine operator and master mechanic. He stayed active all his life and enjoyed helping his grandchildren with mechanical repairs, working around his house and yard, feeding his crows, and traveling, especially to Branson to see the shows.
He is survived by a son, John Purpera, Jr. and wife Bobbie; 5 grandchildren: Kathy Purpera Ellis and husband Dan, David Wayne Purpera, Daryl Glenn Purpera and wife Shelly, Christi Ash Ducote and husband Dwayne, and Londyn Purpera Conner and husband Daniel; 3 great-grandchildren: Nichole Purpera Levatino and husband Bradley, Kelsey Purpera Ulery and husband Aaron, and Christian Wayne Purpera; and 1 great-great-grandchild: Blakely Nichole Levatino.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, Mary Marquerite Ainsworth Purpera; son, Frank Wayne Purpera; parents; brothers: Joseph Purpera, Angelo Purpera, Frank Purpera, Cosimo D. Purpera, Vincent Purpera; and sister Rosina Purpera Dupont.
Pallbearers will include Dan Ellis, David Purpera, Christian Purpera, Dwayne Ducote, Aaron Ulery, and Bradley Levatino.
Services will be held on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70816. Visiting hours will be observed from 12:30 PM until memorial service at 2:30 PM.
Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
