John Orona

June 12, 1949 — March 12, 2009


A field superintendent with Moore Construction of Baton Rouge, he passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2009, at age 59. He graduated from LSU in 1971 with a degree in business and finance. He was a master carpenter and a fine woodworker who passed his skills on to many people throughout his life. He had also mastered virtually every aspect of building construction. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Wednesday, March 18, from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Thursday, March 19, from 12:30 p.m. until funeral at 2:30 p.m. He is survived by a daughter, Christy and husband Shane Pafumi, of Sydney, Australia; son, Michael and wife Christine Orona, of Denham Springs; daughter, Sarah Orona, of Baton Rouge; two granddaughters, Georgia and Isabella Pafumi; and his former wife and mother of his children, Susan Lindig, of Baton Rouge; a sister Judy Cashel, of Texas and stepfather, Jimmie Orona of Baton Rouge. Preceded in death by his mother, Alice Lucille Minthorn Orona; father, Joseph J. Dermody and sister, Barbara Orona Moreno. John's family would like to thank Dr. Michael Castine, who cared for him during his illness and also all of the staff at the Pennington Cancer Center and Cancer Services of Baton Rouge.
