Dr. John Johnny Anthony Miller passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2009. Dr. John Miller was born on August 10, 1944 in Mobile, AL and grew up in Baton Rouge, LA. He attended Redemptorist High School and upon graduation went to Louisiana State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. He was a former A.I. Ch.E Student Chapter President, Registered Engineer, a member of the Menninger Foundation and a past president of the LSU Alumni Association in Houston, Texas. His career included: Affiliation with Humble Oil and Refining Exxon in several areas of refining; Assistant Professorship in Engineering at Auburn University; employed by Foster Grant Chemical Company now American Hoechst in Petrochemicals and Plastics; employed by Merichem Company, an independent specialty chemicals company in projects and new ventures; served as Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Board of Howell Corp., a
ersified energy corporation. Dr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents and brother; William Miller, Sr.; Mary Madeline Ludeau Miller and William Miller, Jr. He is survived by brothers-Jimmy Miller, Los Angeles, CA; Bobby Miller, Baton Rouge, LA; sisters, Mary Smith, Cornelius, NC and Robin Miller, Jupiter, FL; his daughters, Dr. Jina A. Miller, Shreveport, LA.; Julie A. Sparks of Pass Christian, MS and Jill A. MInsky, Shreveport, LA. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren, Hunter, Madeline and Eva Paul, Carter and Laura Lillie Sparks; Griffin Henry, Jack and Gabe Minsky. A memorial service will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, La.. Mass will be held at 5pm on Friday, May 8, 2009, immediately followed by visitation at Sarto Hall. Father Alec Sheldon will be the celebrant for the mass. John, in life, we loved you dearly, in death, we do the same. The day god called you home, you left us with precious memories. You are still a guide to us, and though we cannot see you, John, you will always be by our side. Pater is Latin term for Father and it implies a sense of connection, trust, and guidance. John was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother and friend who gave more than he ever asked for. He has special talents and core values that revealed the essential character of the man. His natural affection for his family and others whose lives he touched will be missed. We love you.
