John Logel McCay, Jr. died Saturday, September 21, 2013 with his family at his side. He was an avid LSU fan and fisherman. John was born June 19, 1943 in Baton Rouge, graduated from Baton Rouge High, attended LSU, and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Saratoga aircraft carrier. He worked for many years in the wholesale liquor industry before becoming a manufacturers rep selling fishing boats. He also owned McCay Wholesale Sporting Goods, serving retail outlets for their fishing equipment needs. John is survived by his wife, Merrilee Audioun McCay daughters, Melissa McCay Gay of Brandon, MS, and Amy McCay Varisco Dwain, Sr. grandchildren, Krissi Wright West Lamon, Tayler Anne Gay, Brandon, MS, Dwain Varisco, Jr., and Jack Varisco mother, Mildred Savage sisters, Susan McCay Hustmyre, and Pat McCay Teel Gary and motherinlaw, Mary Audioun of Biloxi, MS. He was preceded in death by his father, John McCay, Sr. fatherinlaw, Legrand Audioun, M.D. and brotherinlaw, Charles Hustmyre III. A memorial service will be Saturday Sept. 28 at 1 p.m., at Resthaven Funeral Home conducted by Pastor Dave Buss of Trinity Lutheran Church.
