John Mcarthur Iii

July 3, 1956 — October 17, 2013

And leaping up, he stood and began to walk... walking and leaping and PRAISING God. Acts 3:8
Thursday morning, October 17, 2013, God called our Brother to run to Him... his broken body was left behind as he raced to the eternal celebration in his glorious, perfect body. Through our grieving wails and tears, we REJOICED for his freedom. So if the Son sets you free, you will be FREE indeed. John 8:36. We gathered around him praying and thanking God for His great blessing, His gift to us:
John Brent McArthur III Brother was born on July 3, 1956. He was the first son and third child of eight for John Brent Jr. and Gerry McArthur. His older sisters were always asked how is baby brother Thus the name, Brother, was the name that stuck. Family, friends, classmates, and teachers called him Brother. He was Brother. Brother grew up on St. Rose Ave., an Our GangLeave It To Beaver neighborhood filled with friends and great adventures. His best friend was neighbor Davy Myers. They had a secret yell and covered every inch of those streets...both above and below ground. Brother went to Sacred Heart School K8 and graduated from CHS. Brother was a natural athlete. He was king of the gymclass, rope climbing challenge. He could hold an Lsit for 5 minutes on the floor, chairs, or pool ladders. He could have excelled at any sport but he wanted to work. His parents and cousin, Gordon Bargas, bought Rubys now Georges on Perkins Road. He started working in 6th grade sweeping up. By highschool, he graduated to bus boy and at 15 he got his drivers license and bought his first car, a 1969 Camaro SS. Brothers first passion was dogs and he had many beloved mutts over the years. His second great love was fast cars. He was a handsome, cool dude and a great dancer thus, many beautiful girl friends. During college, Brother was promoted to bartender. He bought a Porsche 914. Life was great for 21 year old Bro and then, in one crazy adventure, everything changed. Weeks before graduating LSU, he fell climbing around a bridge with friends and was paralyzed from the neck down. April 22, 1978 began a new life for Brother and for all who knew and loved him. Doctors told us he wouldnt live through the night... he did. They said he would never sit in a wheelchair... he did. In this unbelievably scary new world, a hero arose. Brother adjusted, adapted and achieved excellence with the courage of a warrior, the strength of a champion, and the humility of a saint. He was accepting, patient, gracious, and grateful... he did it We were told many times he was dying. God had other plans. Brother even went back to LSU and completed his degree. In 2010, Brother posted on Facebook: on this day in 1978, I ventured into a slower lane... BUT with a lot of hope, prayers, and the dedication of family, friends and MedPros... Im still cruisin I can never thank those responsible enough, but you know bless you Im really a lucky guy... Lou Gehrig said it best. Bro ...I have learned in whatever state I am to be content... I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phillipians 4:1113 He wasnt perfect. He could be stubborn and headstrong... but that was great. He never surrendered We learned to do things we never dreamed of doing because he needed it. He was brave so we learned to be brave. He was grateful and accepting so we learned to say thank you and not complain as much. He taught us LOTS and loved us BIG We are so grateful for dear friends who never saw him as handicapped and allowed him to enjoy bikenight, football games, and family celebrations: JD RuckmanBrothers dearest friend, David Brassett, David Darby and others. Thank you. Over the years, we have met many doctors and nurses. We are grateful for those who cared and were compassionate. Special thanks to our Warrior Team: Dr. Gerald Barber, Dr. Anna Smither, Dr. Christian Hall, Dr. Carl Luikart, Dr. Bill Hines, and J.D. Ruckman ER Nurse Supreme. You will never know how grateful we are for each of you. The second hero of Brothers story is our mom. When Brother fell, she asked God to let her live long enough to take care of him. God answered her prayer. She served and cared for Brother with love and JOY everyday of his life. She is 84 and in wonderful health. Whenever Brother went into the hospital or to a new doctor, we heard the same thing: It is amazing he lived this long. He must have good care After the fall, Brother always lived at home. For most of those 35 years, Brother was cared for by family alone. God sent special angels to help us. We will always remember Ivra as one of our angels. In recent years, weve had more help. Thank you: Kobi, Kerri, Erin, Esther, Marissa, Michelle, and others for loving him. Just as Brother learned to adjust to a different life, he leaves many here adjusting to a life without him: his precious mother his sisters and brothers: Brenda Tommy Teepell, Marcia Art Ruckman, Gerry McArthur, Michael McArthur, Jons wifeKaren McArthur, Holley Ronnie Doran, Ryan Patty McArthur his nieces and nephews: Tommy Alicia Teepell Katie Rose and Tripp Timmy Sarah Teepell Virginia, William, Thomas, Georgia, Montana, and Tennessee Todd Teepell Taylor Ashley Teepell Troy Julianne Ruckman Megan Ruckman Chandler, Grace Malloy McArthur Elise Camille Doran Cole Cade McArthur cousins and family: Cathy Chris Hall, Laurie Trumps, Freda Michael Lester, and their families The Tomeny, Ruckman, Holley Clans and ALL who became family to us...especially Brother Eldon Crifasi. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Please no flowers... donations to Friends of the Animals Baton Rouge Dog Adoption House would really make him smile God poured out GRACE to give Brother all he needed for 22 35 years. Brother was not afraid of death. He KNEW his destination was heaven because of his belief and trust in Jesus Christ. God will give us GRACE to live in this world so strange without him. We rejoice over his reunion with our dad and our brother, Jon. What a glorious celebration... we KNOW we will see them again We praise God for his sovereign, eternal plan ... we praise Him for it ALL I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living. Psalm 116:9.
