John Johnson

John Broadus Johnson Jerry, 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at his home due to complications associated with aortic stenosis. A native of Belmont, North Carolina and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, he retired as President of Bluebonnet Life Insurance Company, served as President and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield from February 1983 until November of 1989 and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Jerry was affiliated with First Presbyterian Church and received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Appalachian State University in 1991. Jerry served on the Salvation Army Board for several years, Istrouma Council Boy Scouts of America and the Union Planters Board of Directors. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Survived by his loving wife of 45 years, LaNelle Johnson daughters, Debra and Bill Matthews, Lynn Curtis, Joy and husband David Pennington, Jeri Benton and husband Steven Cochran stepson, Jay and wife Kristy Northcutt fourteen grandchildren, Ashley and James Moye, Tosha Whitley, Justin Curtis, Savannah and Orion Siqwert, Sam, Ellie, Emma Grace Pennington, Amelia, Anna, Thomas Cochran, Hunter and Hannah Northcutt and five greatgrandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, John and Clyde Johnson brothers, J.P. Johnson and Barry Johnson daughter, Alison Leiberman. Pallbearers will include, Steve Cochran, David Pennington, Chip Johnson, Ned Clark, Harold Adcock and Bill Matthews and Honorary Pallbearer, Richard Hevey. Special thanks to Dr. Danny Moraes, Dr. Roy Kadair, and nurse, Stacy Dugas. Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Friday, May 17, 2013 from 11 am until service at 12 noon. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
