John Hedrick

January 4, 1930 — October 16, 2014

John Edwin Hedrick,
a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Van Buren, Arkansas, was born January 4, 1930 and passedon October 16, 2014 on his own terms. A brave and courageous man who left his mark in many lives. An avid fisherman whose tales were often woven into the fabric of his life, from the coldest ice fishing in Alaska to the mosquito laden marshes of southern Louisiana. He served his country with valor and distinction as a decorated WWII and Korean War Veteran, first as Army Air Corp and then as a member of the newly formed Air Force until retirement. He started with sitting on mountain tops in China directing air strikes, then surviving as the Chinese overran his position in Korea. He was one of the original plank owners of the first Tactical Air Control Parties, TACP, originally deployed into Korea, 25 June 1950, 5 days before the official deployment of the 21st Infantry. Attached to the army fighting units they earned the nickname Air Force Infantry. Left to celebrate his life is his loving companion, Bev Varnado whose faithfulness brought many a smile on cloudy days.

He is survived by his son, Don and wife Chris daughter, Linda Mioton and husband Mike daughter, Kimberlee 4 grandchildren: Dennis Blosch, Jessica Mioton, Rebecca Sigler and husband Matt, and Erica Mioton 3 great grandchildren: Layla, Juliana, and Cade. Preceding John was his devoted wife of 54 years, Ola Maxine Hedrick his 4 brothers, Calvin, Joel Jr., Amos and Isaac and his greatgrandson, Austin Cade Trussell. Special thanks to our family clan, always there to his friends at Ms. Gs, have one on me his fishin buddies who helped rebuild the camp, many times, after those darn hurricanes to all the veterans who know the stories and Dr. Hanson, GG,NP, and Dr. Treuil, who kept the faith.
