John Duncan

John C. Duncan passed away Sunday, June 12th after a long illness at Sunrise Assisted Living Home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife, Ginger Duncan, his sons Charles and Steve Duncan and wife Jane, his stepdaughter Lisa Tozer and husband Dean, stepdaughter in law Melissa Jones, stepson Troy Jones. He is also survived by his grandchildren Adrienne, Richard and Stephen Duncan, step grandchildren Chase, Alex, Zachary, and Nicholas Jones, Owen and Seth Tozer. Mr. Duncan was born in Beaumont, Texas but spent his childhood and teen years in Stuttgart, Arkansas. Mr. Duncan graduated from Louisiana State University in 1953 with a B.S. degree in geology. At LSU he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, academic honor fraternities Phi Eta Sigma and Omicron Delta Kappa. In addition, he served as the squadron executive officer in the Air Force ROTC. In his senior year he was President of the College of Arts and Sciences and a member of Whos Who in American Colleges and Universities. Upon graduation he earned his commission in the United State Air Force and served two years of active duty. He later served as a Captain in the Air Force Reserves until 1965. Mr. Duncan was a petroleum geologist in New Orleans from 1955 until 1967. He moved to Lafayette, Louisiana in 1967 and became an independent geologist in 1973. He is responsible for some significant oil and gas finds in Louisiana such as Livingston Field and Lockhart Crossing. From 1990 until 2000, Mr. Duncan maintained residences in Lafayette, Louisiana and Blowing Rock, North Carolina. He was an avid pilot and enjoyed flying his plane between both locations. In 2000 he made Blowing Rock his full time residence. While in North Carolina he was a member of the Blowing Rock Country Club and was in the Chancellors Society for Appalachian State University. He also was a member of the LSU Alumni Association and was a LSU football season ticket holder for over 30 years. He will be missed by his family, friends and his loyal German Shepherd Brixie. Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 15th from 11am until service at 2pm. Interment will be in Resthaven Gardens of Memory .
