John Davis Devillier, Sr. passed away at the age of 83 on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at his home in Central, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Weston Devillier, Sr. and Cecelia Thomassee Devillier; and siblings, Catherine Patin, Betty Hodges, and Frank Devillier.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Irene Daigle Devillier; and siblings, J. Weston Devillier, Jr., Mary Gainey, Viola Lambert, and Carolyn Devillier. He is also survived by his children, Renee Devillier Montgomery and spouse Michael, John Devillier, Jr. and spouse Mary Kay, Michelle Devillier, Michael Devillier and spouse Wynette, Ron Devillier and spouse Susan, and Suzanne Devillier Hester and spouse Jeff; grandchildren, Brandon and Laura Devillier, Kyle and Amanda Devillier, Joshua Devillier and Shelby Underwood, Jonathan Devillier, Austin Devillier, Caleb and Breanna Clark, and numerous great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.
After graduating from Istrouma High School in Baton Rouge, John served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He worked for AT&T and retired after 32 years of service. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Greenwell Springs, LA. Affectionately known as Pa John, he really enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, woodworking and always looking for the next project. Those who knew him well appreciated his gift of conversation.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, July 31, 2015, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70816. Visitation will continue on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Rd, Greenwell Springs, LA, from 8:30 AM until the time of Mass.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, officiated by Father Gregory J. Daigle.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Brandon Devillier, Kyle Devillier, Joshua Devillier, Jonathan Devillier, Caleb Clark, and Austin Devillier. Cross bearer will be his granddaughter Breanna Clark.
Interment will take place at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70816.
