John Anthony DeSalvo peacefully entered the presence of Jesus at 12:50 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2012, at the age of 59 in his home in Prairieville, Louisiana, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 10, 1953, and his life radically changed in June of 1978 when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. John attended HylesAnderson College in Crown Point, Indiana, where he earned a bachelors degree in music. John used his gift of music and beautiful voice as a Minister of Music for 15 years at Oak Forest Baptist Church outside of Chicago, Calvary Heights Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Central Baptist Church in Panama City, Florida. Upon returning to Louisiana in 1998, he worked as an Inside Sales Representative for DMC Carter Chambers and fellowshipped at Bethany World Prayer Center where his wife, Carolyn, is the administrator of Bethany Christian School. John is best known for his wit and dry sense of humor and his heart of kindness and compassion to meet the needs of all who crossed his path. He enjoyed riding his Harley, collecting model trains, and most recently hunting with his sons. He is survived by a wealth of family and friends who loved him dearly, including his devoted wife of 31 years, Carolyn Parker DeSalvo his daughter and soninlaw, Amy DeSalvo Roberie and Joshua Roberie two sons and daughtersinlaw, Anthony Tony and Casey Guilbeau DeSalvo, and Andrew Andy and Heather Dedon DeSalvo four grandchildren, Sophie Roberie, John JD and Tucker DeSalvo, and Jackson DeSalvo three sisters, Marlene DeSalvo McKane, Marian DeSalvo McFadden, and Patricia DeSalvo and a beloved niece who was like a fourth sister, Dawn Pazdell Smith as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony John DeSalvo and Evelyn Benedetto DeSalvo. Special thanks to Hospice Nurse and Carolyns sister, Kathleen Parker Grubb, for her special care and tenderness to our family during Johns passing Dr. Mark Kantrow of Our Lady of the Lake Palliative Medicine for his compassionate guidance and direction St. Joseph Hospice and the Carpenter House for their excellent care, DMC Carter Chambers for their support and generosity during Johns illness, and Dr. Richard and Pam White for their many years of love and friendship. Charitable donations can be given to St. Joseph Hospice. Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 27, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will resume on Wednesday, November 28, at 10 a.m. until the memorial service begins at 11 a.m. conducted by Dr. Richard White.
