John Gerald Cado, lovingly known as Pawpaw, passed away in his home at Ollie Steele Burden Manor on May 18, 2013. John was born in New Orleans and moved to Baton Rouge where he married his wife Virginia. If you met John you knew he had many passions in life, one of which was gardening. He is responsible for starting and maintaining the extensive garden at Ollie Steele. He was a loyal and loving servant of God and has impacted countless lives through his acts of charity and kindness. He was a family man in the truest sense. Family was his first priority and he made sure everyone knew how much he cared for them. He considered all residents of Ollie Steele as family members too. He cared for them, fixed their coffee, kept them company, and made everyone laugh. He never met a stranger, and everyone that was fortunate enough to know him are better because of it. He will always remain in our thoughts as a constant reminder that people are capable of true love, compassion, and devotion. His parents were Nicholas and Frances Margiotta Cado, his loving wife of 50 years Virginia Materiste Cado, son Kevin Peter Cado, sisters Marguerite Cado McKay, Anna Mae Cado Bonacarso, brothers Nicholas Cado, Joseph Cado, and Anthony Cado. He is survived by daughter Jennifer Cado Richardson, son Scott Nicholas Cado, grandchildren Ian Christopher Richardson, Lauren Richardson Luke, Leah Richardson Frederick, Elise Ryan Cado, and great grandchild Molly Christine Luke. Visitation will be held at Ollie Steele Burden Manor chapel on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 10:30AM with memorial to follow at 11:30.
